The Early Career Leadership Program (ECLP) is an online professional development program composed of graduate students and postdocs working in the field of genetics. ECLP participants work in teams to propose, develop, and implement initiatives that address unmet needs for the early career scientist community.
The ECLP Editor will work with program participants to hone their writing skills. The ECLP Editor will provide writing and editing support for ECLP projects, including articles, leadership spotlights, interview series, proposals, and a weekly e-newsletter.
Collaborating with ECLP member-authors to:
Edit documents, including: blog posts for publication on Genes to Genomes, interview series, ECLP subcommittee proposals, and other materials
Oversee the ECS Weekly Newsletter Resources section, including working with authors to develop and edit their pieces. This task is completed in conjunction with the Communication and Outreach Subcommittee.
Project management using Smartsheet, Slack, and Google Workspace software.
Write and edit content as requested.
Other duties as needed.
Required degree(s), experience
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Professional Writing, Journalism, or closely related field with 3–5 years professional work experience in academic and/or scientific writing and editing
Exceptional English writing, editing, grammar, and spelling skills
Experience writing about science or other technical subject
Experience working with in-house style guides
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in science is a bonus
Interest in the non-profit sector is a bonus
Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style is a bonus
Experience sourcing and crediting multimedia content (e.g., photos, vector graphics) is a bonus, as is an understanding of usage rights
