ABOUT THIS POSITION
BTI has launched Vault, a translational program focusing on advancing technologies emerging from BTI research labs towards commercialization.
The fellow will join BTI’s translational program and be responsible for conducting research for selected projects, establishing proof-of-concept and validation experiments, producing data for intellectual property protection and expanding the value of promising technologies. Specifically, the fellow will assist two research scientists with different aspects of the research program: the fellow will primarily focus on the development of the new generation of HighFive cells, but will also have the opportunity to support other projects in molecular biology and plant science.
The postbac fellow should be eager to learn new skills and be able to easily adapt to new projects.
In the course of this fellowship, the fellow will acquire important laboratory skills, an understanding of translational research, technology development, and gain familiarity with the importance of intellectual property protection, marketing and licensing on technology development.
Applicants should be recent B.S. or M.S. graduates (graduation within the last 3 years) wishing to gain research experience and planning to apply for graduate school or join industry.
This is a 1-year fellowship, extendable one year.

Working from a sincere interest in issues of social justice, William Boyce Thompson founded the Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI) in 1924, believing that basic plant research could lead to real societal benefit. Over the almost 100 years since its founding, BTI has evolved to become a premier life sciences research institution, with scientists conducting investigations into fundamental plant and life sciences research with the goals of increasing food security, improving environmental sustainability in agriculture and making basic discoveries that will enhance human health. BTI, located in Ithaca, New York on the Cornell University campus, employs 150 staff, with scientists from over 40 countries around the world, and has twice been named as one of the Best Companies in New York State.
