The Department of Biomedical Engineering is perennially in the top five of U.S.News & World Report rankings, with a current ranking of 3rd in the graduate program and 4th in the undergraduate program. It is known for its strong ties to Duke's School of Medicine (ranked 3rd in the nation) and its academic medical center. Duke BME is home to 570 students across all degree-granting programs (178 BS, 144 MS/MEng and 248 PhD), 51 primary faculty, 39 secondary faculty, and a team of approximately 150 technical and administrative staff members.
