We are seeking a talented individual who will provide leadership in support of the PRO-DAIRY mission as well as sponsored project workload being accomplished by the Dairy Environmental Systems Program with specific emphasis on dairy farm sustainability. You will provide technical expertise regarding conservation practices, farm energy systems, manure management, and treatment systems. Specific duties include:
Providing leadership to educational programs that address how to increase effective dairy farm sustainability, climate resiliency, and environmental improvement.
Identifying, securing, and sustaining new additional funding sources to enhance and extend program opportunities both individually and collaboratively.
Preparing and developing reports that describe the benefits of conservation practices and manure treatment systems.
Delivering educational programs utilizing various methods, including workshops, webinars, seminars, and newsletters.
Evaluating existing and proposed farm environmental practices, manure management, and treatment systems and their characteristics.
Bachelor’s degree in agricultural, civil, or mechanical engineering from an accredited engineering school and 5+ years of experience in agricultural engineering, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in applying and evaluating dairy environmental systems, including facilities and manure handling and treatment systems on dairy farms.
Knowledge of dairy farm operations.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal direction yet work in a group-orient setting.
Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
Proven organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to define, conduct, and interpret applied research and demonstration projects.
Ability to develop projects and see them through to completion.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Public speaking/adult education material development and delivery
Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with diverse audiences in group and one-on-one settings.
Ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community, and funding partners.

The Cornell PRO-DAIRY Dairy Environmental Systems program, comprised of a team of multidisciplinary professionals, works closely with select New York State, US, and international dairy industry leaders to identify, develop, document, and disseminate innovative methods for dairy farm sustainability focusing on dairy housing, manure and byproduct management, energy systems targeted to enhance animal performance, animal well-being, system efficiency, environmental compliance including soil, water and air, and overall farm profitability. All work is targeted towards the overall program mission of furthering individual farm and industry-wide growth and sustainability.
