Faculty Position in the Biology of Photosynthetic Organisms
The MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory (PRL) has a tenure-track, twelve-month faculty position available at the Assistant Professor level. We are recruiting an individual who investigates fundamental questions addressing the biology of plants, algae, or photosynthetic bacteria at a mechanistic level. Research on novel natural or synthetic model organisms is welcomed. Successful applicants should complement and extend areas of expertise and research at the PRL. Individuals are expected to employ innovative and state-of-the art approaches, which may include, but are not limited to, advanced molecular and structural biology, cell biology, computational biology, genetics and genomics, metabolomics, synthetic biology, biophysics, phenomics, or modeling.
The PRL, with long-standing funding from U.S. DOE-BES, provides a highly collaborative environment for conducting creative, fundamental research on photosynthetic organisms, with a research core focused on energy-related science aimed at improving photosynthetic robustness and productivity. This research core is complemented by interdisciplinary research on photosynthetic organisms and their interactions with the environment. More information on the breadth of PRL research is available at https://prl.natsci.msu.edu/research/. PRL faculty are full members of the MSU tenure-stream faculty and jointly appointed in an academic department. Applicants must have a PhD and postdoctoral research experience with evidence of productivity and potential for independent research that contributes to the DOE-BES priorities at the PRL but also expands the breadth of the PRL research portfolio.
Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, summary of research accomplishments, a 3-5 page plan for future research that details specifically how the candidate envisions their research will fit within and complement the PRL core research as well as how they will establish independent research directions. A statement of teaching, mentoring experience and philosophy, and summary of experience or philosophy fostering diversity and inclusion in your professional career should be provided. Contact information for three referees should also be provided. Application materials should be submitted as a single PDF file through the MSU applicant page at https://jobs.msu.edu (position #590973) Questions regarding this position should be directed to the chair of the search committee, Federica Brandizzi (email@example.com). Consideration of applicants will begin on November 1, 2019.

About Michigan State University, Plant Research Laboratory
We are a premier research institute embedded at Michigan State University and funded by the US Department of Energy and other funding bodies. Our mission is to discover how photosynthetic organisms work on the molecular level, in order, ultimately, to develop technologies that improve human lives. What We Stand ForMany solutions for 21st century problems will come from photosynthetic organisms. We need to understand how their components work together and how they thrive in natural environments, so that we can harness them for sustainable applications.
