The mission of the Plant Sciences (PS) Department is to conduct focused, comprehensive and integrated research, teaching, and Extension programs, which directly support plant science. The Department of Plant Sciences prepares students for careers in the fields of crop science, plant biotechnology, horticulture and plant breeding. The department works closely with leading industries across the state such as potatoes, wheat, barley, sugar beets and onions. In a fast-changing agricultural industry, Plant Sciences prides itself on staying at the forefront of science. It provides a wide range of curriculum choices in traditional production sciences, and incorporates biotechnology as well as other integrated technologies across multiple disciplines. Students receive both hands-on experience and classroom instruction. This is an academic year appointment and summer salary will be provided.

Agriculture is one of the main industries in the state of Idaho, with over $25 billion in total sales, accounting for 20 percent of the state’s total sales. Agribusiness is responsible for 14 percent of Idaho’s GSP and approximately one in every seven jobs in the state is related to agriculture.
